IRS Extra Information About Socket Connections, Installation, etc


QUESTION 1

How many cables will be included in every socket?

According to the follwing website: http://www.aerialconcept.co.uk/communal/irs/

“If Sky Plus or Sky HD is required, then you will need 2 cables to each position.” This means that for Sky Plus and Sky HD, we will need 2 cables per flat or dwelling.

ANSWER 1

Every socket will have 2 cables to the resident’s living room. This will enable the resident to received Sky + and HD if they subscribe to the service.


QUESTION 2

What are the specifications for the socket inside the flats that you will install? How many physical connections will be on that socket? How many cables will we be able to connect?

ANSWER 2

Each socket has 4 connections, depending on what the resident would like to see he will have to use the correct socket, please see the attached picture to explain what each connection provides.

If they is only one cable then how is it possible for any digital box/receiver to understand both terrestial and satellite signals? As far as we know there are terestial receivers and satellite ones. Even the ones that are combined the two functons together need two seperate cables, one for the terestial and one for the satellite.

The 9 wire Integrated reception system has two coaxial cables as confirmed above.

Could you please list all the compatible receivers that your contractors recommend for the IRS systems and the exact configuraton of those boxes (i.e. CAMs, DiSQEC, switches, etc). As you may be aware the residents have to know how to configure the basic settings in their boxes?

ANSWER 4
Unfortunately we are not able to provide you with this information as the list would be very long and will constantly change. When you have your socket installed you can discuss your preferences with the engineer who would be able to assist you. If you wish to use the Hotbird dish you would need a set top box with Disqec, you can ask the shop you purchase it from if it is compatible.

Will your contractors help the residents to setup the boxes inside the flats?

ANSWER 5
Any equipment that is installed already will be re-connect by the contractor, they will not install new equipment from the box.

How will the contractors test that the sockets are working inside the flats?

The contractor will test the sockets by looking at the residents television reception, as well as the test carried out at time of commissioning the system.

The contractors must have some stock of spare parts in order to maintain the system during the first year. What is the policy for this? Can we have a copy of that policy?

ANSWER 10
You are correct in stating that the contractor are responsible for the system for 12 months after installation, they have spare parts for the systems, they stock a minimum level on site. I am unable to provide you with a policy for the stocking of spare parts.

How quickly will the contractors fix a problem during the warranty? What is the policy? Can we have a copy?

The contractor aim to fix any faults within a week, where possible.

When will Camden Council find a contractor for the maintenance of the system for the year 2011 onwards?

ANSWER 12
The maintenance contract has not been agreed. Currently they all maintenance issues are done on a reactive basis.
